Chris “CJ” Johnson- 1.16.27

Finalist on American Idol farewell season.

Chris “CJ” Johnson is a Nashville-based singer, songwriter, guitarist, and bassist whose career has been built on resilience, versatility, and a relentless passion for music. Originally a guitarist before becoming an in-demand bassist, CJ first gained national attention touring with Hollywood Records recording artist Ingram Hill, completing their Cold in California world tour, including performances at Guantanamo Bay.

His journey has been anything but ordinary. After auditioning for Shinedown during the Sound of Madness era and later being turned down by The Voice, CJ refused to let setbacks define him. Instead, he continued sharpening his craft, eventually earning recognition for a powerful, soulful voice often described as a blend of Chris Stapleton, Otis Redding, and Justin Timberlake.

CJ went on to front the rock band American Fiction, recording the album Dumb Luck with legendary producer Eddie Kramer, whose credits include Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, and The Beatles. His work later helped earn him recognition as a Top 10 finalist on the final season of American Idol, introducing his voice to a national audience.

Today, CJ performs across the country with a style that effortlessly blends Southern rock, country, soul, blues, and modern Americana. Whether delivering heartfelt ballads or high-energy rock anthems, his live performances are known for authentic storytelling, powerhouse vocals, and years of hard-earned experience on stages of every size.

Beyond performing, CJ is also an entrepreneur and mentor, creating opportunities for other artists through music, technology, and nonprofit initiatives. His mission is simple: use music to inspire people, build community, and prove that persistence can turn rejection into opportunity.

For CJ Johnson, every stage is another chance to connect, every song tells a story, and the best chapter is still being written.
